CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's swimming team swept the Cleveland City College Meet with a host of dominant individual performances, posting five new top team times and one top diving score on Friday (Nov. 10) at the Busbey Natatorium. The Vikings are now 7-0 on the season after defeating all four of Friday's opponents.
First of all, I want to say that it was the idea of Robert Busbey to have the local colleges swim here at our great facility here at CSU," head coach Wally Morton said. "It was a great pleasure to have some local swimmers here tonight."
Senior Bjorn Schantz posted a league-best 1:40.43 in the 200 free and also won the 100 free with a time of :47.97. Freshman Stephen Grove notched a new top team time of :21.67 in his second place swim in the 50 free while fellow junior Ari Markle recorded a team season-best :53.99 in the 100 back.
Sophomores Stef Potgieter and Marko Milenkovic posted the team's other season-best efforts in the 100 breast and 200 IM, respectively. Potgieter (:57.64) eclipsed his own top mark of :58.02 and Milenkovic swam a 1:55.84, nearly four seconds better than the team's previous top mark.
"We swam great tonight but we still have a long way to go to get where we want to be," Morton said. "We mixed up our lineup and put people in new events but a lot of our swimmers had their best times and I was pleased with our effort and enthusiasm."
Senior Chris Dalman kept his unbeaten season alive by posting scores a season-best 326.25 on the one-meter board and a 365.00 in the three-meter dive. Dalman, the 2006 Horizon League one-meter champion, is unbeaten in eight diving events. Junior Dan Baiko placed second in both diving events
In the night's final event, CSU captured the top two spots in the 200 free relay.
The Vikings host league foe Wright State at the Busbey Natatorium tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
