HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Cleveland State volleyball team closed out its first weekend of Horizon League play Saturday, dropping a 3-1 contest at Northern Kentucky.

Offensively, the trio of Hannah Greene, Lydia Latimer and Trinniti Hall led the Vikings, with Greene posted 12 kills, Latimer notching 11 and Hall adding 10.
Lindsey Tout finished with a team-high 20 digs against the Norse, marking her fifth 20-dig match of the year. Emily DeGeorge also tallied double-digit digs for the Vikings, finishing with 14 on the match.
Greene recorded four total blocks to lead the Vikings, marking the ninth match this season that she has tallied three or more blocks.
During the opening set the Vikings outlasted Northern Kentucky, picking up a 31-29 first set victory to claim an early 1-0 lead in the match.
After falling behind early in the frame, Cleveland State battled back midway through, tying the set at 19-19 after a Greene kill and a Tout service ace. The two teams then traded points over the next few plays, until NKU was able to earn set point at 24-23. The Vikings fended off the first two NKU set points with a pair of Greene kills, and then went on to save four more set points before closing out the frame.
With the score knotted at 29-29, Cleveland State was finally able to notch back-to-back points, earning their own set point on yet another Greene kill, while the Vikings put the set away after forcing an NKU error.
The Norse evened the match with a 25-20 victory during the second set, and then picked up a 25-10 victory in the third set to earn a 2-1 match advantage.
During the fourth a final frame, the two teams battled back and forth until the midway point when NKU went on a 3-1 run to gain a 14-10 advantage. The Norse were then able to control the tempo for the rest of the set, picking up a 25-21 fourth set victory to claim the 3-1 match win.
Cleveland State will return home for a two-match homestand next weekend, hosting Milwaukee on Friday, October 4 and Green Bay on Saturday, October 5.
