2019 Fall Campaign
This will mark the first of five weekends during the 2019 fall campaign for the Vikings, with Cleveland State also competing at the Oracle ITA Masters (Sept. 26-29), Purdue Fall Invitational (Oct. 4-6), ITA All-American Championship (Oct. 5-13), ITA Midwest Regional (Oct. 17-21), and Viking Invitational (Nov. 1-3).
Cleveland State returns six letterwinners for the 2019-20 season, including the senior duo of Nico Mostardi and Jack Santilli. These two will be joined by juniors Luke Phillips and Matthew Terry, and sophomore Clark Bilinovich and Raul Teichmann. Last season, this group helped the Vikings claim their second straight Horizon League tournament title, and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
Mostardi On CSU Singles Wins List
Senior Nico Mostardi enters his final campaign ranked ninth on the CSU Singles Wins List, entering the year with 70 career victories. Last year, Mostardi became one of just three Vikings all-time to reach the 70-win milestone as a junior, and is just one win shy of moving into a tie for eighth place on the wins list.
Phillips Closing In On 50 Singles Wins
Entering the 2019 fall campaign junior Luke Phillips is closing in on becoming the 16th Viking all-time to reach the 50-win mark, as he currently has 47 career singles victories. Phillips has posted 20+ wins in each of his first two seasons as a Viking, and would join teammates Matthew Terry and Nico Mostardi in the 50-win club.
2019 ITA Rankings
As a team, Cleveland State finished the 2019 spring campaign ranked eighth in the ITA Midwest Regional rankings, marking the highest regional ranking in program history. Along with the team ranking, Nico Mostardi finished the year ranked 18th regionally, while the doubles team of Mostardi and Benjamin Slade cracked the national rankings to cap off the year.
Head Coach Brian Etzkin
The Vikings will be under the direction of 18-year head coach Brian Etzkin. As the all-time winningest coach in program history, Etzkin eclipsed the 250-win mark last season, finishing the year with 254 career victories.
