Steven Wright enters his first season at Cleveland State as the director of video operations on Dennis Gates' coaching staff.
Wright brings an extensive coaching and playing career to Cleveland State.
For the past two seasons, Wright served as the head coach at Princeton High School in Cincinnati. He was named the Greater Miami Coach of the Year in 2018 and also earned District 16 Coach of the Year honors.
He spent three seasons at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio and helped the Cougars reach the NJCAA Division II Tournament in 2015-16.
Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. in 2012-13.
His coaching career included stints with Under Armour's C2K and King James AAU teams.
Wright had a highly decorated playing career at Bowling Green State and Northern Kentucky.
He began his playing career at Bowling Green where he was a three-year starter at point guard. During his sophomore season he averaged 11.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and then averaged 11.4 points, 3.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds per contest as a junior.
He played his final season at Northern Kentucky where he earned First Team Division II Bulletin All-American honors. Additionally, Wright was selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and was selected to play in the NABC All-Star game.
Wright earned his liberal arts degree from Bowling Green State in 2006 and his master's degree in teaching from the University of Cumberlands in 2015.
