NORTON, Ohio – After an almost two-hour rain delay, the Cleveland State cross country team finally hit the course at the Tommy Evans Invite, running an unconventional 5K. With the delay, the men's race went first, with the women's start immediately following the men's start, putting both groups on the course at the same time.
Despite the delay, the Vikings were still able to put on a strong performance, with three runners finishing in the top-15 with sub 19-minute 5K times.
For the second straight week freshman Anna Brandt led the Vikings, finishing sixth overall with a time of 18:27. Karen Barrientos was the next Viking to cross the finish line, placing eighth in 18:31, while Jessica Finley finished 11th with a 5K time of 18:36.
All three of these times rank in the top-five on the CSU Top Performances List, while it also marked career-best times for Brandt and Finley.
The freshman duo of Kylie Scott and Abbey Rojeck were the next Cleveland State runners to cross the finish line then, with Scott posting a time of 19:32 and Rojeck recording a 5K time of 20:41. Both times marked career-bests for the rookies.
Cleveland State will next be in action at the Friendship Invitational on Saturday, September 16, with the women's race slated for a 10:15 a.m. start.
