CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams will get a good sense of where they are at early in the season this weekend as both programs make the short trip to Akron.
CSU will be hitting the road for the first time this season as it competes at the inaugural Akron Zips Classic. The meet has three sessions—Friday evening (5:00 p.m.), Saturday morning (10:00 a.m.) and Saturday evening (5:00 p.m.). All traditional swimming events will be contested with the order of events listed at the bottom of this article.
Free live video will be available by clicking the links at the top of this article. Live results will be available through the Meet Mobile app ($).
In addition to the host Zips and Cleveland State, Cincinnati, Denison, Miami (Ohio) and Xavier will be competing at the meet. The top 16 individuals will score while the top 10 men's relays and top 12 women's relays will score. A maximum of two relays per team will count for scoring.
Cleveland State opened its season at home on the final weekend of September by hosting the Viking Relay Challenge. Featuring a meet schedule consisting entirely of relays, many of the untraditional variety, CSU swept all eight relays contested on the men's side. The Viking women won four relays while the programs combined to win the two coed relays held.
Twenty two Viking men swam on at least one winning relay at the season-opening meet while 14 women achieved that feat.
The CSU men were selected as the Horizon League preseason favorite in the League's early-season reveal last week while the women were tabbed for a second-place finish.
Cleveland State's next action will come Oct. 20 when the women host Youngstown State in a dual meet.
