CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will take its two-game winning streak to Macon, Ga., this weekend as the Vikings are slated to participate in the Mercer Bears Classic beginning on Friday (March 15). CSU will play Fordham, Mercer, Connecticut, South Dakota and Ball State during tournament play.
The Vikings will open tournament play on Friday (March 15) against Fordham at 9 a.m. and then meet the host Bears at 3:45 p.m. On Saturday (March 16), Cleveland State will face Connecticut at 9 a.m. and then play South Dakota at 11:15 a.m. The Vikings will conclude tournament play on Sunday (March 17) against Ball State at 10 a.m.
Cleveland State won its final two games of the Jacksonville/North Florida Spring Break Challenge against La Salle and Jacksonville to improve to 5-13 on the season. Kelly Hysong was named the Horizon League Player of the Week after leading the Vikings to a 2-3 record at the tournament. She batted .476 in five games and had three doubles and two homers, while she also posted a .905 slugging percentage.
Hysong's name is scattered throughout the Horizon League leaders rankings, which includes topping the Horizon League in slugging percentage (.778), hits (28), doubles (8) and home runs (6). She is currently batting .389 on the season and leads CSU with 15 RBIs.
Riley Ries, who had the game-winning double against Jacksonville, ranks second on the team with a .340 batting average and 10 RBIs. She also ranks seventh in the Horizon League with a .462 on-base percentage and is tied for second in the league with seven doubles.
Hanna Griffin leads the Vikings with three wins in the circle, while Hysong has two victories. Griffin has posted a 4.78 earned run average, while Hysong has pitched to a 5.87 ERA. Alicia Major tops the Vikings with a 3.50 ERA in 10 innings pitched.
The Vikings game against Mercer on Friday (March 15) will be live streamed beginning at 3:45 p.m.
