CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee recently concluded its spring community service event that featured teams volunteering at the Cleveland Food Bank and taking part in an afternoon of "can"struction.
The 10-day food drive kicked off with teams being paired in groups of two. Men's basketball was teamed with cross country, while men's soccer and women's tennis were grouped together. Volleyball teamed with women's basketball, softball and men's fencing joined forces and wrestling and women's fencing were a team.
Women's soccer and men's golf, men's swimming and diving and women's golf and women's swimming and diving and men's tennis rounded out the groups.
The teams assembled in Woodling Gym on March 30 to collect the food and take part in a "can"struction with each group consturucting an object with the cans they collected.
Softball and men's fencing won the event, building an American Flag with their cans followed by an epee going through a softball.
The duo earned 75 Viking Cup Points, as well as dinner at Burgers 2 Beer.
In addition, each team was required to volunteer two hours at the Cleveland Food Bank, packing boxes, sorting food and preparing meals for soup kitchens.
